Prior to private practice, Hanna was the sole licensed social worker at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA)- Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Newnan, Georgia. Prior to joining CTCA, Hanna was a social worker for pediatric oncology patients and their families at The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. Hanna was awarded the American Cancer Society’s Masters in Training Grant for social workers specializing on oncology. With a passion that is palpable, Hanna advocates for cancer patients and their families from initial diagnosis, through treatment, to survivorship or palliative care and hospice. Hanna has been interviewed for two national publications: Oncology Times and Cancer Fighters Thrive Magazine for her interventions address grief, loss, and bereavement and supportive services for patients and families. In 2011, Hanna planned and executed Savannah’s most successful St. Baldrick’s Foundation head shaving event raising over $35,000 for childhood cancer research. Hanna remains committed to serving this population in and out of her private practice.

Prior to focusing on oncology, Hanna worked with victims through various non-profits, hospitals, and the judicial systems in both Georgia and Florida. Hanna worked with both children and adult survivors of sexual violence and domestic violence. Hanna is a certified Sexual Assault Victim Advocate and a certified Domestic Violence Victim Advocate. Hanna continues to work with survivors directly and as an advocate for victims on the local and national levels politically.

Hanna also has extensive knowledge and experience working with families with a child, adolescent, or adult diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. Hanna works with the entire family system to help them navigate the ways in which the family dynamic changes, advocates for services in the education system, connects the family to local and national resources and explores the emotional impacts for each individual. Hanna remains actively committed to this population and their family system not only in her private practice but also on a state and national level.

Woven into the populations she has worked with, Hanna joins with her clients to treat as well as teach individualized coping skills for depression, anxiety, childhood abuse/trauma, stress, chronic medical/health conditions, PTSD, couples concerns/divorce, parenting concerns, infertility, stillbirth/miscarriage, LGBT concerns, self-esteem, adult ADD/ADHD, communication difficulties, and life transitions. Hanna does not participate in the power dynamics of “old school” psychotherapy. Hanna believes every client is the expert of their situation. Hanna is the co-pilot with her clients, she is not better than any client, she is not here to lecture anyone. Hanna is a proactive therapist who likes to give her clients the most for their money. Hanna will assign readings, homework assignments, journal entries, and other activities for her clients to get more therapeutic skills out of their meetings with Hanna. If the client is ready to take on more, Hanna is right there to assist. Sometimes homework, is too much for a client’s busy schedule. Hanna does not assign homework for everyone, she simply meets clients where they are.

For every client Hanna maintains her commitment to utilize evidence-based practice. Hanna will utilize different theories based on each individual client’s therapy goals. These theoretical approaches could include: person centered humanistic theory, strengths-based perspective, William Worden’s tasks of mourning, mindfulness based stress reduction, Gottman couple therapy, art, music, poetry, and narrative therapies, Berne’s transactional analysis, structural family therapy, or Yalom’s group therapy.
